  • DESCRIPTIVE TEXT

    Descriptive text adalah teks yang digunakan untuk menjelaskan atau memberikan gambaran (deskripsi) mengenai sesuatu atau seseorang. Jadi tujuan dari descriptive text adalah untuk menggambarkan suatu hal.

    Ciri-ciri dari descriptive text adalah:

    • Menggunakan simple present
    • Menggunakan action verb yaitu kata kerja yang menunjukkan suatu kegiatan yang bisa dilihat, contohnya walk, sleep, read, cook dan lain sebagainya
    • Verb yang digunakan adalah attribute verb seperti be (is, am and are)

    Untuk menanyakan deskripsi/gambaran mengenai seseorang atau sesuatu kalimat tanya yang biasa digunakan adalah :

    • What is..... like?
    • What does.... look like?

    Contohnya:

    1. What is your new teacher like?
    2. What does your new house look like?
    3. What is it like?

    Situation 1

    Lisa: Dayu, do you have a pet?

    Dayu: Yes, I do. I have a dog

    Lisa: I love dogs! What is it like?

    Dayu: It's a he. He has brown curly fur and big round eyes. He is very playful.

    Lisa: Wow! I can imagine how adorable he is.

    Situation 2

    Siti: Dayu, do you often go to the park near your house?

    Dayu: Yes,  I do.

    Siti: What does the park look like?

    Dayu: It's beautiful. There are so  many beautiful flowers and big trees.

    Siti: That's great. We should go there together sometime.

    Situation 3

    Udin: Do you know Farhan Ramadhan?

    Dayu: Yes, I do.

    Udin: What is he like?

    Dayu: He is about your age and has curly hair. He is a nice person to talk to and have a soft voice.

    Situation 4

    Lisa: Siti, you look so happy today.

    Siti: Yes, my mother bought me a new cell phone yesterday.

    Lisa: May I see it?

    Siti: I want to focus on study at school, so I left it at home.

    Lisa: What is your phone like?

    Siti: It's white, has a big wide screen and it's very light.
